Project Overview

Old Farmside was a complicated emergency repair project that lasted for four weeks. The task involved fixing two bursts in a main located in the Ewood area of Blackburn. Given the project’s complexity, it required round-the-clock work, as around 11,000 properties were impacted and went without water for an extended period. Moreover, the team faced additional challenges, including high temperatures during one of the hottest weekends of the year, which made it more critical than ever to restore the water supply. Despite these obstacles, the team worked diligently to complete the project and restore the water supply to the affected properties.

During the project, the team encountered several challenging scenarios. In addition to the time constraints for repairing the main, the leak’s location posed an extra level of complexity. The leak was situated at the lower end of a garden, making it difficult for typical suppliers of materials such as stone to reach the site efficiently. Consequently, alternative methods were necessary to complete the task, such as obtaining stone in smaller quantities, which resulted in higher costs and ultimately increased the overall expense of the project.

Following the completion of the works, the industry received a plethora of positive feedback. The project was highly publicised, as a significant number of households were affected by the water supply issue. Consequently, the pressure on the team to complete the job flawlessly was immense, as it would impact the company’s reputation. Overall, the team was pleased with the outcome and the hard work put into the project. Moreover, the success of the completed job has potentially enabled the business to gain more work from the client, which has further boosted the company’s positive reputation.
